EIA supports ADAO’s Petition for Review

April 24, 2024

[Chevy Chase, MD] - The Environmental Information Association (EIA) fully supports the efforts of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) in their Petition for Review of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rule entitled Asbestos Part 1; Chrysotile Asbestos: Regulation of Certain Conditions of Use Under the Toxic Substances Control Act. ADAO’s Petition for Review was filed with the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on April 19, 2024.

Since the founding of ADAO in 2004, EIA has supported ADAO’s mission to prevent asbestos exposure, eliminate asbestos disease and to protect asbestos victims’ civil rights. EIA, through its highly skilled and experienced membership, has served as a technical resource to ADAO and has always endeavored to disseminate ADAO’s message of advocacy and prevention. EIA continues in this steadfast commitment.

Further, EIA fully supports EPA’s rule to ban Chrysotile asbestos. The United States is woefully behind much of the world in banning this cancer-causing mineral. EPA is finally able, under revisions to TSCA in 2016, to stop the continuing legacy of asbestos-related disease in the U.S.
