More Details
In the early 1980's the awareness of asbestos and asbestos related issues created a demand for knowledge unparalleled to this day.
In response to this need, a group emerged as a steering committee to form a new organization. This organization adopted the name, NATIONAL ASBESTOS COUNCIL. The following outlines the purpose and objectives of the Council.
PURPOSE: To collect, generate, and disseminate information to building owners, interested professionals, and the public concerning asbestos in buildings.
OBJECTIVES: To gather and maintain information regarding asbestos-related projects; to serve as an educational resource on asbestos related projects; to promote the highest standards of professionalism among its members.
The above passage was respectfully borrowed from the first President of NAC Burt Vardeman. This message was sent to prospective NAC members in the first National Asbestos Council Newsletter in the Spring of 1983. In that very first newsletter, NAC disseminated technical information relating to asbestos from technical experts of that time and today.
To this day the tradition continues under its new name, The Environmental Information Association. Although asbestos is still a very important issue, the focus of EIA has expanded beyond asbestos and into other demanding areas of environmental health and safety. Information disseminated by EIA has been a valuable asset to professionals dealing with these issues around to world.
The NAC/EIA Publications Archive contains over 100 Journals and publications published by NAC and EIA from its birth in 1983 through 1999. The intent of the Archive is to further the purpose of NAC/EIA by collecting, generating, and disseminating information to interested parties by providing this invaluable information in one convenient location. Contained on these disks are the technical publications, discussion of technical conferences, and advertisements from vendors, contractors, and others in the field. In essence these disks document the evolution of the asbestos industry and provide information relating to other environmental health and safety issues, which are useful and pertinent to this day.
