Mold and fireproofing

[This is an archived post from the previous EIA forum.]

Has anyone encountered mold growth in fireproofing, particularly in newer construction?  I have dealt with a few projects where mold growth has been encountered on new applications where the fireproofing has been treated with an anti-microbial chemical by the manufacturer - this was during the construction of a building prior to the establishment of client controls.  Was unable to discern much from the fireproofing manufacturer, but would be interested in any similar experiences or knowledge on this topic.

Re: Mold and fireproofing

Cowboy Dave,

I have some sxperience with mold on fireproofing.  I did a job with approx. 30,000 square feet of fireproofing with various amounts of mold that had developed on the overspray.  The biggest logistical nightmare was that the area this work was being done in was a computer data center.  There were several issues with dust control and contamination of the computers.

Call me for more details at 919-215-2052.
