Cutting into transite pipe water lines

I have a project where I need to cut into (multiple penetrations over varying locations) asbestos concrete pipe to install branch piping.  If anyone has a work scope or ideas as to the best way to do this without making dust - I would appreciate it.  Location is Massachusetts.

Look at ASTM E2394 Standard Practice for Maintenance, Renovation and Repair of Installed Asbestos Cement Products. There are procedures in the appendices for underground cement pipe and electrical ducts. This might give you some ideas.

Re: Cutting into transite pipe water lines

Asbestos is the name given to a range of fibres that have been made into numerous building products over time given their strength, fire-resistance and insulation properties. There is now a campaign on how to remove asbestos from homes because in recent years it has been found that inhaling asbestos fibres can lead to diseases like lung cancer, pleural plaques and asbestosis.

If you live in a house that has asbestos there's no need for immediate worry. If the asbestos in your home is in good condition and can't be crushed to dust in your hand then there are no immediate health concerns.

Does this apply to you? If so here's some tips that will help you maintain your asbestos in good condition for years to come.

Is there any environmental damage?

Keep an eye on the condition of asbestos materials that are exposed to some kind of natural element. Any material you find in bad condition needs to be repaired or replaced.

Keep guttering and downpipes in good repair

If your house has an asbestos roof it's very important that your downpipes and guttering are in good repair. The reason is that any debris caught will contain asbestos and should therefore be removed, taking the proper precautions.

Tank water

Any water collected in a tank from an asbestos roof is perfectly safe to drink. But over time the best thing you can do is to replace your asbestos roofing and put filters on your tank taps, just to follow best practice.

Keep paint in good condition

A lot of walls in older houses have asbestos sheeting on them. If this is your home, then make sure the paint is in good condition, and touch up where necessary. Painted asbestos sheeting is of no risk healthwise.

It is recommended that you hire asbestos removal contract
